These are not marketing claims. They are documented standards, held to every day, on every piece, in our workshop.
Every plank we use is selected for zero sapwood — the primary cause of insect attack and dimensional instability in furniture. This single standard is the foundation of our 16-year insect defect-free record.
We season every plank in our own on-site kiln — controlling moisture content to each plank's individual characteristics. This is why our defect rate is less than 1% of what we manufacture.
We alternate the orientation of growth rings on joined panels. The natural movement of each plank counteracts its neighbour — the result is panels of exceptional long-term stability. A master joiner's technique. Our standard practice.
Every component - including chair bases, drawer bases, and rear panels — is solid wood. Sapu timber is used for upholstered furniture carcasses where structural strength is paramount. No MDF. No plywood. No exceptions.
Our proprietary finishing process produces a signature piano finish - a depth of gloss unreplicated anywhere else in Sri Lanka. The natural grain remains visible and celebrated in every finish and colour. Stain-resistant. Boiling-water resistant. A damp cloth is all it ever needs.
Some of our craftsmen have been with MM for over 40 years. Each carpenter reads the individual characteristics of every component before assembly — because two planks of identical dimensions are never truly the same piece of wood.
Every MM piece carries a 10-year structural warranty. But our commitment to the quality of what we make does not end at ten years. Any structural defect that is attributable to our manufacturing will be repaired by MM — regardless of how old the piece is. We can make this promise because our defect rate is so low that we are rarely called upon to honour it.
The warranty is a return-to-manufacturer warranty — which means the piece needs to be brought to us for repair. For our international customers, we acknowledge that this is not always practical, and we are transparent about that. What we offer instead is the assurance of a standard so high that the warranty is rarely relevant at all.
Sri Lanka's pioneering dedicated furniture restoration service. Launched in 2010, The Furniture Spa exists because the pieces we make deserve to be maintained — and because no one is better qualified to care for an MM piece than MM itself.
We offer two avenues of care: Restoration — returning your piece to its original lustre and condition; and Reimagination — transforming it with new fabrics, finishes, or treatments. With over 10,000 fabric designs, colours, and textures available, and an equally extensive range of lacquers and finishes, your piece can be reborn as many times as your taste evolves.
The Furniture Spa serves commercial clients as well as residential ones. Hotels, restaurants, corporate offices, and any business that depends on the quality of its physical environment can rely on MM's restoration services to maintain the standard that furniture creates.
Enquire About the Furniture Spa →One of the most remarkable things about an MM piece is how little it asks of you. Our finishing process produces a surface of exceptional resilience — and exceptional simplicity to maintain.
A damp cloth is all you need. No furniture polish. No wax. No specialist products — ever. This remains true decades after your piece was delivered.
Our surfaces are resistant to boiling water, alcohol, and glass rings. If something is spilled — even directly from a kettle — simply wipe with a damp cloth. No coasters are required.
As with all solid wood furniture, prolonged direct exposure to intense sunlight or heat sources can affect colour and surface over time. We recommend avoiding placement directly beside radiators, fireplaces, or air conditioning units.
